Since he started spinning records in late-nineties Florence, Biga (aka Francesco Bigazzi) left his mark on the Italian hip hop scene. Nowadays he is revered by his peers as a skilled beatmaker and DJ, and well-known in the collectors’ circles as a tireless and voracious digger. Over time, his legendary DJ sets won the respect of music lovers of all ages, impressed by his eclectic taste and his ability to navigate genres with ease. After having explored every possible branch of African-American Music, he leaned towards global sounds, growing particularly fond of Latin - and, more specifically, Brazilian - musical tradition. Biga’s whole cultural baggage reveals itself on “Due Facce”, his most recent beat tape and the first to be released by florentine record label UR Suoni. As every sample-based work should be, the musical matter showcased here is dirty, fat and rustling. Funky beats and powerful bass lines provide a solid foundation to the sound, which can thus hover in the air and explode into a myriad of different nuances. Electric piano notes float around wrapped in acid clouds, while cinematic string arrangements merge with soulful, ethereal voices to create a lysergic and entrancing texture. The music displayed by these 15 sonic haikus ranges from relentless rhythms to jazzy moods, touching both the subtle atmospheres of bossa nova and the time-warping dimension of post-rock. Like any previous Biga’s production, "Due Facce" is an ode to vinyl culture, a declaration of love for music, and the the passionate work of a gifted craftsman.

In qualità di beatmaker, DJ e instancabile collezionista di dischi, Biga (al secolo, Francesco Bigazzi) rappresenta un solido punto di riferimento per la scena hip hop nazionale fin dai suoi esordi alla consolle, nella Firenze dei tardi anni ’90. Nel corso del tempo i suoi leggendari DJ set lo hanno imposto come digger eclettico e raffinato, capace di orientarsi con disinvoltura fra i generi più disparati. Dopo aver esplorato ogni possibile diramazione della musica Afro-Americana, il nostro ha abbracciato sonorità globali, instaurando un legame profondo con la tradizione musicale latina e più specificamente brasiliana. In “Due Facce” - un beat tape che inaugura il sodalizio con UR Suoni - converge tutto il bagaglio culturale tipico del personaggio. Alla base delle composizioni ci sono campioni sporchi, grassi e fruscianti. I beat di estrazione funk e i bassi potenti forniscono fondamenta solide al suono, che può così librarsi nell’aria ed esplodere in una miriade di sfumature differenti. Note di piano elettrico galleggiano avvolte in nuvole d’acido, mentre stralci di arrangiamenti d’archi blaxploitation e fantasmi di voci soul tracciano tessiture ambientali lisergiche e avvolgenti. Nel corso di quindici brevi acquerelli sonori si spazia da ritmiche incalzanti a umori jazzati, arrivando in certi episodi a sfiorare la rarefazione tipica della bossa o le dilatazioni spazio-temporali di certo post-rock. Come ogni produzione di Biga, “Due Facce” è un’ode alla cultura del vinile, una dichiarazione d’amore nei confronti della musica tutta e un’opera di raffinato artigianato, cesellata col gusto di chi si addentra nel profondo delle proprie passioni.
